In response to the drought continuing to plague the south, or perhaps the fear of the continuation of a flailing economy, many more folks are trying their hand at vegetable gardening this spring with fields being plowed all across the county.

We have sold more garden seeds this year than I can remember selling in the past, said Bob Pardue of The Garden Barn, and its not really even warm enough to plant much yet. According to Pardue, anything planted before the weekend of Mothers Day, which this year encompasses May 10th and May 11th, stands the chance of getting killed due to fluctuating temperatures. Most of us recall the big snow we got at Easter a few years back.

Vegetable crops are increasing in popularity in resounding fashion for many reasons including low cost of production and higher nutritional value.
